Step inside The Wood Whittlers and witness something you won’t find anywhere else on the Gatlinburg strip — real craftsmen, carving real wood, right in front of you. Our 3rd generation woodworkers shape everything from tiny Christmas ornaments to grand fireplace mantles using the same techniques Shirl Compton used when he opened these doors in 1944.
Most everything in our shop was made right here. What wasn’t was handcrafted by makers we know personally — fellow mountain craftspeople whose work meets the same standard we’ve held since 1944. When you take something home from The Wood Whittlers you’re not buying a souvenir. You’re buying a piece of Smoky Mountain history.
